Our Story
How it all started...
Friends Community Church started in the living room of David and Pat Davenport's house in 1975 with just 6 adults and one baby boy. David and Pat had just returned home from a tour of duty in the Air Force with a vision to start a church where people could worship simply and honestly without a lot of religious "trappings". They wanted to gather together with folks who just wanted to hear God and obey Him. The early Friends called their beliefs "Christianity writ plain" -- plain people, plain love, plain obedience. They wanted to share life with others in that simple, joyful faith. They quickly outgrew their living room and rented a hall in Angleton, TX. As time passed God sent people to the church who were tired, who were suffering, who were discouraged, and those who were turned off by "churchiness" and religion in general. Many of these people stayed for a while and then moved on to serve other churches. While they hated to see these people go, they knew that we are all called to be Kingdom People, no church people. Our primary goal is to help expand the Kingdom of God on Earth.

Expanding the vision...
In the early 80s it was obvious that the rented meeting place was becoming a limiting factor to their growth and ministry - too small, facilities inadequate for meetings of over 35 to 40 people. They started looking for a building site. With the congregation consisting of people from Angleton and Danbury they were looking for a location "in the middle". Then a long-time family friend sold them the 7 acres on Highway 35 where our facilities are located today. We continue to expand our reach and vision by doing community service projects like that pictured below.

Where we are headed...
Friends Community Church is looking ahead to continue to point people to a deeper and more confident relationship with God. A relationship in which He is the initiator and we are the responders, where we can focus on hearing His voice and obeying when He speaks to us. We are continuing to fill those that are tired and pointing them to the One where we can find rest. We are continuing to be a safe haven for those that want to find God in through simplicity. We are looking to share the light of Jesus to everyone so that they can experience the freedom and peace only He can provide.
